I have an ancient 2007 Fox 32 TALAS 140 fork on an equally antique but still perfectly ridable 2007 Chumba XCL. It's the original fork for this bike. The fork has never seen professional service; I've changed the damper oil and the stanchion seals twice (screwed it up the first time, got it closer to right the second time). But it also hasn't seen a lot of use in recent years.

I got back into MTBing after a decade away, and the TALAS still acts like it did before. But I've noticed when prepping for rides that the air spring will sometimes have little or no pressure after a week or two of sitting. The leak doesn't seem to affect trail riding. Yet.

Obviously Fox has moved on. I saved some service instructions from their website, but I don't have the instructions or tools to do a full internal service job. I do have the tools to properly pressurize the IFP chamber. But I've never done the job.

Any clues as to what seal(s) might be leaking, and whether or how I might fix them?

If you've never had the TALAS rebuilt, you're long overdue. The Fox kit is long gone, but it can be done with common seal sizes as substitute.

There are specific things that could contribute to a leak, but with the age of it, it's worth investigating and servicing it properly.
