This bike on ebay has a $300 shipping and handling charge.

What unscrupulous bike shop in the San Diego area is charging newbies $300 to use FedEx or UPS (no more than $50 coast to coast), and maybe $50 shop labor?

Here's what he said when I asked if it was a typo ($30 instead of $300): if you know someone who will pack and ship it for $30, great. I'll ship it any way the winning bidder wants. I'm not a bike guy. $300 was the estiamte given to me.

Now I've come across idiots on ebay and other classifieds who charge for the free alternative weekly newspaper used in the packing, the depreciation on the scissors used to cut the tape stolen from the office, and the 37 cents in gas used to drive to the lbs to pick up the old box... not to mention the $8 for postage to ship a pair of grips USPS Priority (which is only $3.80), but this $300 takes the cake mainly because it's someone else screwing the guy, not the guy screwing us!

wow

I'll bet you can find round trip airfare to/from San Diego from anywhere on the west coast cheaper and bring it back as baggage. One day rental car included. I wouldn't go that far out of the way for an old pre 4-bar link FS. (at least thats what it looked like in the picture, it does have XTR's though)

Shipping isn't that expensive, My mom just bought a Dell computer with free 2nd day air. Since Dell wouldn't do 2nd day air to Alaska, next day air was $165 for 4 huge computer boxes. (ended up doing free 2nd day air to a barge line in Washington state, UPS/FedEx will do any time frame shipping up here, but only by air, unless you ask Dell)

Looks like the seller wants to be certain to get a profit. There are a fair amount of shipping scams out there. I always e-mail first and get a quote, or method of shipping. That's by far the worst I've seen.

The guy is a liar. Hes just jacking up the price of shipping. My shop packages complete bikes for 10$ and frames for less. And they do an excellent job. They wont ship them though, so I went to FedEx and they shipped 2 bikes for 60 something dollars. He is jacking up the price probably hoping the high bidder wont notice. No way his reserve gets met. You might as well fly there and take the bike back as luggage for 300$.

Its the other guy ...

I remmy I shipped my bike from Califorina to Wash D.C about three years ago and IT only cost me 40 bucks ...I cant belive this guy would do that. But, lets point to the guy who didnt read it carefully, he was an idiot for not looking or asking before bidding....

That guy is on dope....

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the bike itself isn't worth $300. The way I see it, if he gave you the bike for free and you just paid the shipping, you'd still be getting robbed.
