Big thanks to everyone for the tour last Saturday - you sure showed us city boys how to climb :D now I remember why I should get out in central park more during the week.

Despite my snail like pace on those climbs (was there anything else?) it was a great ride.

Cheers

Ross,

Glad you liked! Always good to show the city folks the country once in a while. Nah, seriously it was good having you guy'sout! Did you find the Combos (more for David)????

Bob W.
yeah, scored some combos and they were tasty. saw howie cruising down the highway in his porsche, top down. must be a nice life you guys have out there... someone stole the '3' from the 'Mazda 3' badge on the back of my car and scratched up the paint pretty good doing it. at first thought it happened at the gas station, but the dude looked at the station looked at the security tape and didn't see nothing. then he called me back and said he looked some more and it was already gone when we pulled into the station. now i think it happened outside my girlfriend's place. wouldn't be the first time being vandalized there. punk kids. just reinforces that i need to get out of this pee pee soaked heck hole.
btw, profuse thanks again for the tour. we only hit like 10% of the trails there? sheesh. we were all in awe of you guys. i'm still pooped.
Totally unrelated, but...

I saw the biggest black bear I've ever seen this past Saturday on the Red trail at Allamuchy - It ran across the trail about 20 yards in front of me. Considering that you hardly ever see another rider when at Allamuchy, running into bears isn't the best thing for your nerves.
Muchy

As I said to Ross, no problem on the tour. Yeah when you think of the Park as a whole, that was just about 10%. Pleanty more good stuff to be had.

Judge - we usually come across more bears than riders and consider that a good thing! Just remember...they are just big fluffy dogs!!! I come across them much closer that 20 yards, never a problem. Just talk to them to get them out of the way. I think the whole bears as an issues thing is blown way out of proportion. I much rather seem them than not. (Ok lets start the whole underestimating thing...)

I hear you, I still find it amazing that I rode for 3+ hours on a Saturday morning in the most densely populated state and ran into exactly as many riders (1) as bears. Too bad the mosquitos were out in force.
bears??? no-one mentioned that before we went...;)

I was in Alberta (Banff & Jasper) a couple of years back and rented a bike to hit some local trails - all was fun, no bears but saw some (f'in large) elk at very close range. Then on the way home dropped by a friend who lent me a book about bears and bear attacks.

Safe to say if I had read the book first I would NOT have been out on my own up there.... the description by the bear attack survivor of the feeling of the bear's teeth scraping on his skull was a little too much for me.... :cryin: :cryin:

PS - Saturday was my first ever taste of combos - that's the joy of moving to a new country - all the more junk food / candy to try :)
Bears?

Was this at Deer Path or North? My Colbert-ish fear of bears is kicking in right now. I was out there solo early Sunday morning and found myself talking to the woods to let the "fluffy dogs" know I was there. Silly, but it made me feel better.
Hey guys,

thanks for the awesome tour of Allamuchy.

You guys are really awesome riders, and you've given me new inspiration to get in shape!

Thanks again,
Steve

The trail I was on was in the vacinity of the Waterloo parking area. It's just a fact of life these days that there are bears in Allamuchy, Ringwood, Waywayanda, and a few other places in Northern NJ. I haven't heard of anyone having a problem, but it's still takes a little getting use to. To be honest, after I saw the bear I picked up some rocks and put them in my pocket. Not sure what good they would have done if a bear got too close, but I was a pretty good pitcher in my high school days so I'd take my chances.
I'm jealous I missed this one...
