Well, this is the last trip I'll be making to Diablo till spring.

It was a perfect fall day

As the weather was so good it was all about the ride so you'll all be relived that I didn't stop to take photos much.

I ran into PCinSC & be350ka there as well as JustMtnB44, FreerideMonkey7 and a bunch of other folks I know including my many of my local homies. Everyone had "Get the Ride in" on the mind. Very little chatting very little stop time. Lots of loops.

FRM7 helped me talk PC and BE3 into going down BMW & Stigmata. While we were looking it over JMB44 and his crew flowed right through.
PC FRM and BE discovering pictures indeed don't do it justice:

Last licks on Dom's Denial:

PC Pounding it:

Waiting for the Freight Train for the very last run of the day:

The train was huge and a blast of rowdy rippers taking wild lines around each other, and one big pileup on Alpine...fortunately I was ahead of that mess.

Great day! Now it's local FR & XC till it snows.

Great meeting and riding with ya all. Cheers!

Nice!
Now you guys have two more weeks to make it up here to Highland. November 15th last day...big party after the lift closes. There is an armature video contest...for bike videos..not porn..god that was embarrassing last year. Plenty of cheap hotels in and around Concord (20 min away).

Good times, definitely.

It was great riding with you Zilla. We definitely had the pace up, especially after my hike down BMW. ;) Last couple of runs I didn't take any breaks at all.

I'm pretty beat up today, gonna get my shoulder X-rayed to make sure its not messed up worse than it feels. My A-C joint doesn't quite feel right, I'm hoping that's just swelling and not some type of dislocation.

Some pics:

The Appalachian - a shot of our room (and of be350ka's backside)

View of the hotel from the Indycross track

Line got kinda long at times...lots of riders on a beautiful day.

STIGMATA - The trunk of the tree at the bottom with the pad on it is vertical, that starts to give you an idea of the steepness of this roller.

Zilla rolling through.

Zilla's riding companion killing it on a 6.6 slopestyle. Sorry, we did like 5 runs together and I never caught his name.

good stuff you guys.
PC, big stack? care to talk about it?
Could've been worse. I cased a double on Alpine and dead sailored out of it. Then I actually recovered but was headed off trail, ended up barreling into a boulder and went OTB. Landed hard on my head, right shoulder, then flipped and landed on my left side/leg...then momentum just popped me right up into a standing position.

My bike tumble another 25ft or so down the trail. I was shaken, but no immediate pain and rode for another 4 hours. I'm really glad I had all my armor on.

Nate (be350ka) took a real bad tumble on Saturday on a step-up. He popped over the top and bottomed out his fork, got turned sideways, then tumbled backwards down a 4' rock roller. I found him ~30'+ from the jump next to his bike, in the fetal position and unresponsive. Took about 5 seconds or so before I got any response from him and then he was up and about and seemed to be OK. Chipped his helment, and his Leatt brace probably saved him a case of whiplash or worse. I'm betting he's pretty sore today too.

Hey Pat where did you find D-Duf's gallery? I didn't see any end of season threads over on RM.

That's a great shot of Nate!

What?? Who??? When??? Who am I??

Yup, I am one sore puppy today. I took the motorcycle out for a while today and fighting the wind resistance was quite uncomfortable on the neck muscles.

I do think that the Leatt did its job. Kinda makes me wonder what I was thinking when I wasn't wearing one. Best 400 bucks that I have spent! Darren would probably agree! Hell, I think PC is in the market for one now. Good call buddy!

I think that I am retiring my helmet since the last thing that I remember before PC showed up was the sound of it hitting the rocks. A New THE "One" is on the way. I just hope that I got the right size. I hate buying helmets over the internet.

All in all it was a great weekend. It was really nice to spend some time with some old friends and some new. Its just too bad that the season is now over and we have to get through the snowy months to do it again. But, hey, PC and I already have plans to make some Ray's trips this winter. Things are looking up for sure!!

The closing day at Diablo was awesome, just like every trip there. I finally had the pleasure of meeting Bikezilla but as he said didn't there wasn't much time to talk; too focused on getting runs in. Here's a few pics.

1. BZ on Stigmata rock roll
2. w00dy on Salvation with the X-up
3. Me on Salvation drop
4. Me on Phantom drop

I'm glad I wasn't in the middle of that mess...I was too busy putting my chain back on after a particularly vigorous unload from the gondola.

pretty damn impressive vid. what a cattle call that was but its gotta be a cool feelin to ride in a group that large just to give a quality park a proper wave goodbye for the year. if i were you guys id quit my job, live in the woods in a tent and ride there every day.

hope pat and nate are ok. both sounded like ugly offs.

The vid was great. I'm digging how the camera-man manualed across the jumpbox. Lucky catch getting the dude sliding across the 2nd wall on alpine.

It was mayhem, there were like 2x as many ppl riding behind the camera.

What the vid doesn't show is how choppy much of the run was. The ...you really have to know how to ride a line that keeps your mo' up to hit the feature...think that last chattery fireroad at the end of A-line... A lot of sections have runins like that. It's impressive to watch the guys with skills blow right over them and charge into the features.

BTW was it me or were all the tables hard as heck to clear? I think they musta been worn bc I really had to gun into them to get any distance.

JustM... It's kewl to finish a run with the porch drop aint-it? I must have hit it every run that didn't got down IndyX. Buh bye Porch... hope they replace it with something even better!

Damm it's been ~65 degs the last few days... I need more jumps!

Mad Props to the Vid

Loved the grainy quality, sunset start, skynrd dub in, and last hurrah chinese fockin downhill with guys swooping in and out from everywhere. Very cool when camera man picks off piste surprise routes, spectator swears there's going to be mayheme. Slick tail whips, manuals, speed through the gnar in the middle, dropper at the end. You guys look to have a helluva local vibe and rider support at Diablo and/or the NE. Tuesday's Gone.

The tables were tough to clear, I could only get the first 4 or 5 on upper dominion and the first and third on lower dominion, and that was with pedaling my ass off in between them. I think my Highline is set up too soft to really be good at those types of jumps. I also tried to hit that new set-up jump off the access road above Dom's Denial, but cased it pretty bad twice. I think it made my 66 start creaking.

Yeah I hit Phantom (the porch drop) every time I come through that way, it's sooo smooth, so why not? I did hear they are taking it out, that sucks, but maybe they can build an even better one in it's place.

The video is pretty cool, I don't know how George was still clearing all the jumps in that traffic, but he is a pro so I guess that explains it.
