Large 03 5 Spot with AM1 Review/Comments.

A while ago I posted about building my SPot light for endurance race etc. At that time, I had a Bullit that I was going to use for freeride/DH. Soon thereafter, I got bit by the SS bug and was able to obtain a Ti Tituts HCR for cheap (Reba, Hope hubs, Hayes Etc), so I decided to sell the bullit and use the Five Spot for Light FR/ Agressive Trail.
I decided to replace my 03 Firefly with an 150mm AM1 with the intent of running it in the 130mm most of the time. I should also say that I like my bike slack for DH and I do not like brake dive.

I took out for a long ride yesterday. I've been mostly riding my SS for the last 6 weeks, because I was waiting for a wheelset & some other parts for my 5 Spot.

My bike is really slack now 68 at 130mm & 67 in the 150mm mode. This fork is amazing, really plush. The air allows you tune compression perfeclty to your liking (my preference is about 35psi). My ETA won't stay in place, so I'll have to get that fixed.
I love descending with this fork, it is so plush, however, climbing is now a bear.

I should also mention that I am in the process of crash replacing my front traingle for a 6 pack front (just waiting on annodized green). I mistakeningly thought that my bike would get steeper with the pack front. TSCheezy correctly showed me that I was wrong. This was a decision in me getting the AM1. I think that I am gowing to get Z1 lowers for the AM1 & save it for trips to Whistler Etc. After checking out all the positive the Pike Air Uturn reviews, I think that this fork will make more sense for trail duty on my 5 Pack. The ability to run from 90-140 should allow me to finetune my geometry perfectly. I think in the 140mm mode I should get about a 67-67.5 HA on the 5 Pack --does this sound right and around 68.5 in the 120mm mode. I really like my reba race so I know I'll like the forks performance. I'll post pics soon.

Hmmmmm...I'll check the angles on my temporary 5 pack tonight. It sure does ride nicely with the AM1 in 130mm mode.
Air U turn is 110-140mm, the coil is 95-140 IIRC.

Here are some A/C measurements I found when I was searching the other day.

(cut/paste)

Minute (130) - 505mm
Nixon (145) - 518mm
Pike (140) - 520mm
Fox (130) - 503mm
Fox (125) - 497mm
All Mountain (130/150) - 518/538mm
Please do that.

My feelings may be premature. I think I just got used to the steep angles and weight of my single speed over the last 6 weeks. Just gotta get re-aquinted my Spot & soon to be 5 Pack. I guess 68 Degrees in the 130mm mode & 67 in the 150mm would be OK for the 5 Pack but I'd really hate to trail ride with anything slacker than a 68 HA.

Have you tried adding oil to the ETA side? Or, better question, do you know how much oil you have in the ETA side?

Ya I changed the oil right after I got it and I went with

SSINGAs recommended amounts.
