Hit Cyclepaths just south of tahoe city on 89 (towards homewood) or one of the rental shops on Tahoe Blvd in Tahoe City and ask about a decent TRT-XC center ride (painted rock). This is some of the sweetest singletrack in the area and you don't have to deal with the 1000 kooks or the erosion they cause on the flume. If you are in south shore the powerline train system at the top of Shi Run Blvd or Mr Toads would be nice and the flume is nice but again, pretty loose and crowded.
