Hi, this is a repost, it was posted in the beginers section. My family and I will be spending a week in Lake Gaston this July and I was wondering if we should bring our bikes. Are there places to ride around there. Anyone with info could please help would be great.

I spend a fair number of weekends in the Lake Gaston area and I would be interested in this as well. I've done some research and from what I can gather...a mtb ride is probably out of the picture, There are a couple of places that could be considered bikeable...the seemingly defunct "Ace Track," some "Power Line" trails that didn't sound too appealing from the reviews. I have recently seen some info on the Roanoke Rapids Canal Trails:

I believe that bikes are allowed and if you are a beginner, it might be a good ride. Post up if you hit any of these because I am curious to see what the trails are like. The place that I stay is about 45 minutes from Roanoke Rapids, but we have some good road riding out the front door, so until I hear differently...I'm packing the road bike.
I'm not really looking for anything special, but that would be nice. I just want to know if there are places to ride pave or dirt. Chances are I will be pulling a trailer and my wife will also be riding too. I just don't want to go through the hassle of packing everything we need. Then 4 bikes and a trailer, and then not even use it. Also does anyone know how a yakima double down does on a 2-3 hour drive, and how it will be on the bikes? If it's going to damage frames then I will live the bikes at home.
