I'm stuck. No matter what I do I can not get enough L limit adjustment to prevent the chain from going to the spokes. It's always one index shift to the biggest cog then one left which will go into the spokes. The H limit is fine as is indexing.

Is this a low-normal (rapid rise) derailleur? If so you need to undo the cable before making the low adjustment. Otherwise the cable tension will hold the derailleur in place.

I think so...it is a 2003 model Shimano XT. How can I tell for sure?
