I am new to cycling and don't want to spend a ton of money (just in case I buy it and never pick it up again). My budget is about $400 but is somewhat flexible. I am okay with new or used, and LBS, eBay, Craigslist, etc. From going into LBS's I have been told I am a 19 or 20 (depending on the place. I am 25 years old, male, 6'3", wear a 34-35 inseam and weigh about 200 pounds. I plan to use it mostly for commuting, but want something that I can take off-road.

I also found a dew deluxe on ebay with a dart shox 1. The seller claims it is a 2008, but I think, from looking at konaworld, that it is a 2007. I would be paying $381 plus shipping if I did this.http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=200234687682

The discription is: Special edition Kona Brewing Kona Hahanna Cross-Country Mountain Bike, Forest Green, 24 gears, disc brakes, Dart Shox 1, Aluminum 7005 frame, 19". It seems to me that this is basically a roadbike with mountain bike components.

Either that, or at that point, should I just get a fire mountain? It would be more than I want to spend (I want to spend about $400 but this would be $500 + tax).

Also, I am located in Las Vegas

If anyone knows of a place that sales used bikes here I would appreciate it, or a place that has a decent selection online. I have googled extensively but have yet to find a good result for either.

Welcome to the forums. :band:

Craigslist is usually a good place to look for used but if you dont know what your looking at you can get ripped off pretty quick.

At your height 19-20 or LG sounds like a good fit. :)

Great bike for the price check out the Alpine 650 at $669

http://www.ibexbikes.com/Bikes/ALP-650-Details.html

or the 450 at $469

http://www.ibexbikes.com/Bikes/ALP-450-Details.html

both with disc brakes and excellent customer service.

I adore my Dew Deluxe, she's a killer urban assault bike, and perfect commuter. I'd probably upgrade the wheels and get some cross tires before I'd do any serious trail riding on it though.
I plan on getting another Mountain Bike in the next few months for the trail though. If you plan on doing mostly trail riding, I'd go Fire Mountain or maybe a Blast. I just don't care for knobbies and a suspension fork on pavement. They kind of work against you. Specialized makes nice bikes, I just really like Kona's fit and bang for the buck.

EDIT** the ebay link isn't a dew.
the 2008 dew has hydraulic disks and is gold, sorry, got ahead of myself**

thanks for the help. I was kind of leaning towards kona and you really helped sell me on it. It seems like kona is the same or a little better for comparable bikes at a little less price than specialized.
