I am curently riding a diamondback xsl comp that i will be giving to my dad for his use. I was wondering if the kona hoss would be a good bike for freeriding, dirt jumping, and trails. my limit is $800. Let me know what u think

no

the Hoss is a trail bike for heftier-built riders. It'll take the beating but the geometry is wrong for DJ or FR. Jim

I personally don't know exactly how the geometry is wrong, either, but I have a Hoss and I do know that it is wrong. When I bought my Hoss I had hoped to do some Jumping/Urban Type riding on it, and I have done some. But it just doesn't feel right. My ride is a bit "stretched out" which feels good for XC and trail riding, but stinks for everything else.

My LBS suggested (after I mentioned that I was looking into getting a separate DJ bike) a bike from the Gary Fisher line of Biggn's. The Opie lists for a measly $400, albeit with junk componentry, with an $800 budget you can replace the fork immediately and then upgrade other parts as they break. That's what my tentative plan is (I'll see what the wife says ;) ). I have the Marzocchi Dirt Jam fork that I pulled off my Hoss (replaced with a RS Reba) to put on the Opie and I'll have a bike that's more suited to jumping and I can beat on without worrying about busting up XC parts.

Let us know what you decide to do.

just get a kona jump bike like an 05 cowan (they should be on clearance) or a stuff/ scrap (i forgot which is better)
