I'm about 5'4" and searching for a 15" Kona Explosif. Any change from the 2013 to 2014 frame? It appears that components changed from Sram to Shimano, but is either one a clear winner for components? Any other steel 650b to look at for around the $2000 point?

2013: KONAWORLD

2014: KONA BIKES | 2014 BIKES | TRAIL 27.5" HT | EXPLOSIF

Just want to know what I'm looking at between the two models, whether new or used.

Thanks!

You can get an On One 45650B built up with a Deore parts kit for $1400.

You could upgrade the fork with the extra $600 or ride it as is and spend the money on other things. I built up a 45650B frame with SLX drivetrain and brakes, Sun Ringle Charger Pro wheels and a Fox CTD fork for approx $1800 thanks to a few good deals around Xmas.

Yeah- I looked a bit at the on-one as well as transition Trans am but was leaning to Kona since there are local dealers where I may be able to ride one.

the bottom bracket is just a little higher on the 2014 explosif. may or may not be preferable to you depending on local trails and riding style (and fork length). i love the low, planted feel of my 2013 frame, though 2014 frame is still plenty low. my BB sits right at 12" with a 140mm fork.

spec seems like a toss up. if i bought the complete 2013 i would swap the brakes for shimano. if i bought the complete 2014 i would probably swap the fork...

It seems that the type of steel used was changed from 2014 to 2014 - does anyone know if there was a weight change as well? has anyone weighed their frame?
