Are there any singlespeed riders out there that use knee/shin protection? I seem to be shredding my legs this year due to a couple crashes, so I thought it may be in my best interest to give 'em a try. Does anybody from the non-downhill crowd here ever use them? I don't want to look or feel like a ***** by wearing them; if I have to, I will just tough it out, but... my knees and shins are wasted this year.

Who cares what you look like. I used to get **** from BMXers cuz I wore shin and knee guards, one elbow pad and a helmet to the bike park. well guess what I learned no footers, riding backwards and how to drop in to a big halfpipe without killing myself.

Just do what makes you comfortable and safe and dont worry so much.

I wear hard knee/shin pads on all of my XC or AM rides because I tip over alot. I'm not one of you wild and zany single speeders though, so I won't waste your time with my choice of lowly geared bike equipment.

I was at cycle gear yesterday and saw some pretty decent ones for like $18.... elbow pads too.

I think people riding pad-less look like tools.
