I have a brand new Klein Attitude XX. I bought it right before signing on to a new team, that unfortunately for me doesnt ride Klein. I never even got to use it. What do you think I could get for it? It's all stock- with Bontrager Race XXX lite seat post and handlebar and Fizik Airione saddle.

I guess you could get a grand for the bike.

But.

What kind of bike are you getting in return for joining this team? How much are you shelling out to ride what they ride? Maybe you are better off riding a season on the ride you already have and hooking up with them later after you have at least ragged out the parts on the Klein.

I would say don't ride the Klein for a season if you know you are getting a different bike from the team, because that one season of use is going to greatly reduce the worth of bike. And who knows, you may crash and damage the bike.
Are you serious? A grand for a 4000 dollar machine? Wow, I am really going to get ripped off then...

And no, it hasn't been ridden at all.
I was gonna say

I was gonna say maybe $2000.

Since your team is giving you a bike, why not have a nice, high brow coffee getter? You can NEVER have too many bikes.

Or you could get a decal kit from the bike company that the team rides. Strip the paint and repaint to match the team ride. Stripping the paint and repainting will void the warrenty.

All your parts are gonna be deep team discounts, right? If you figure that you can only get half back for the Klein then how much would you spend repairing the team ride?
Are you going to build the new ride piece by piece? Which bike has the better wheelset?
Which fork is better?
Hmm, I'm thinking about selling it for $2900. Anyone interested?
Well, since yer asking........

You need to buy a $2 advert here http://classifieds.mtbr.com/cgi-bin...iew&language=&session_key=&add_item_button=on

Take a photo and give the specs.
The buying the ad space is the only rule.
yep

Also, are there are any hoity-toity ritzy neighborhood coffee shops near you that have message boards (old skool/pen & paper)? Lots of rich folk look for deals on pricey stuff that they will never use. :D I am sure the snow wont help. :(
The older peeps remember Klein as being a top brand.

Hey Ben, not to be a party pooper or anything, but I think 2900 is way too steep. Firstly, I've seen full xtr specced full-suspension bikes sell for 2100 (these are with high-end frames like the fuel 100 carbon. lower-end frames like the vt command about 1600) Secondly, it's a hardtail, and not full-sus, and these tend to be less popular nowadays and harder to sell. Thirdly, it's a new Klein, and as you can see on these forums, Klein's are not very popular anymore. In fact, people are extremely against the new Klein's and destructively criticize their new stuff, saying how they will be going out of business very soon and how the quality has dropped since passing over to Trek etc... So, I would say at most, try something under 2000. you'd probably get ready buyers at about 1600.

I'm offering this advice so you don't lose the $2 ad fee when people are scared off by the 2900 asking price. hope this helps.
What exactly do these people have to say about the quality of Klein bikes? I don't see anything wrong with it. It's a wonderful bike.

Actually, I have no idea. All I've seen so far is that they don't have the classic Klein drop-outs like the older days and that Klein has not been innovating as it had been before. I've put out a new thread on the new vs old attitudes to clear things up. hope this'll help us see what they think is so bad.

Personally, I rode one of the newer Attitudes when I was considering a new bike, and I thought the ride was very smooth yet stiff, and I grew up on a Klein Pulse Comp, so I'm not a Klein Hater. =) I was just putting out the facts and the given reputation of Klein in the bike industry nowadays.
Well, it is kinda strange

Here are the PROS ....the quality is awesome. Heritage is awesome. Rich people could afford them. Trek bought the company. Paint.

The CONS ....Trek bought them. Pre trek is better in the eye of the Klein dork. Rich people can still afford them. No quality differance between current Kleins and lower priced competitors.

Trek is huge. Klein was not and was struggling to stay alive. Now Trek is not paying attention to the line except for the fact that not enough units are being sold.
If You're Gonna Sell It...Part It Out

That will get you the most money out of it.

I agree with the original reply that was posted. I don't think you'd get much over $1000 for the complete bike if you went the eBay route.
The fork, wheels, and parts are pretty easy to price competively to sell and you should get a decent return on them.
The frame is a different story though. Unless you find someone that is dying to have a brand new Klein frame it isn't going to be worth much. As others have said hardtails aren't in much demand currently and there are plenty of other brands out there if one was to go the hardtail route.
It is a market value

It is worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it, that is the market value. When you price your bike, consider what person can get for that money. I just checked the Klein website, they list attitude XX at MSRP $2749, which means that store price of that bike is $2500. So person can spend $2500 and get new bike with warrany etc.
Rule of thumb is 2-3 year old bike will sell easily at 50% of their original price unless something wrong with the bike. Upgrades usually have no added value to a used bike buyer since he will be comparing the price to stockly equiped one.
Since your bike is only few month old, you are in tough spot. You spent a lot of money on a new bike, but many consider it used.
Not many people will be willing to spend $3000 for a used bike, when they can add g $300-400 to get the new bike with warranty. It is like paying 10% premium on insurance. You can also consider what other used/new bikes are selling in that range to set your price.
Hardtails in that range and quality are.
GF Zigurat($1800 new) (XTR)
Trek 8500 ($2000 new), (XTR)
Stumpjumper disc ($1400 new) (XT/LX)
Stumpjumper S-works M5 ($4000 new) (XTR)
Threrefore I would assume around $1500-1700 is a fair price.
BTW Zigurat/8500/AttitudeXX equiped idnetical. difference is in the frame geometry and paint job. I personally like the genesis geometry of GF

my $0.02
I spend to much time typing and sound like used car salesmen, I am going to ride now, dirt and mud are calling me

Um...

Actually, the Ziggurat is specced with xo/xt stuff and lists for 3299, and the 8500 is specced with only xt stuff. Ben's Attitude XX is a 2005 model, when it listed for 3900 and came with full xtr. They all have different specs, the closest comparison being the similarly priced S-Works M5 HT. Just clarifying, though I do agree with your "rule of thumb".

My mistake I should have checked the facts before posting it, last time I looked at Zigurat was 2004 and it was spec'd xtr/xt and was around $1800 if I remeber correctly. So new Zigurat is $3299 and X-0 and X-9 equipped.
Also TREK 8500 is spec'd xt,
So those two bikes are not quite in the same spec range, but both are premium HT.
Still new 2006 Klein Attitude XX is spec'd XTR/XT and msrp is $2745, it will be hard to find someone willing to pay $2900 for used one when new one is $2749 (even though it is not full XTR)
