Looking for some last minute Christmas gifts. Any recommendations for winter riding gloves for kids? My 9 year old twins are pretty small, in their regular youth Dakine gloves one wears Sm and one M. Don't need anything for subzero, just keeping them comfortable when the sun goes down and it's in the 40's or so. TIA!

I am also interested in this topic as I have a 4 and 6 year old I ride with. The other day my 4 year old said her hands were cold on a ride and I told her to go faster up the hill to get her blood moving.

I sewed a pair of poggies for my son. That way he can use lightweight gloves down into the 20s, which helps with brake and shifting control. Something to consider (but doesn't fit the Christmas gift requirement, since you can't buy small poggies to my knowledge)

These Rockbros mitts have worked well for us -- they come in both "standard" and "large" sizes. We got the standard size before they started offering large and they've seemed to be a pretty good size for kids.

My two boys and I all have 100% Brisker gloves which we really like for winter riding. There's four different youth sizes, so you'd hopefully be able to find a good fit. The palm is typical thin MTB glove style for good grip and bar feel, the top of the glove is a nice fuzzy soft shell material and I'd say good for anything above freezing. They also stay nice and warm in the wet.

These or some other brand like bar mitts are the best you are gonna find and keep their hands warm! Another option but more expensive

I have a set of those as well. IMO it's a toss up between the two.

The dual velcro straps that seal off next to the bar are a little easier to use on the Rockbros, but the Bar Mitts have a little velcro loop on the inside that goes over the end of the bar and prevents it from pushing forward when you stick your hands in.

Cold hands are in part due to a lack of warmth of the torso as this results in the body reducing blood flow and heat loss in the hands and feet. On a bicycle there can be significant wind chill even riding at 8 mph. Smaller individuals have a much greater surface area to body volume and should dress differently than large adults.

I would look at YukiniYa Kid gloves which are not great but will not interfere too much with the use of the shift lever and brakes.

Briskers showed up, been out of stock everywhere we looked. Will get their first ride in them this weekend, temp at the start time for the local short track series is predicted to be 28 degrees.

pogies pogies pogies

solves the glove make/model/type/insulation/grip issues fast. just use
any thin glove with pogies.

pogies take about 5 seconds to figure out they don't cause any lack of control
but they do provide spooky warmth
