I have a 2002 KHS FXT Sport that I have not really ridden that long or hard. Mostly XC with no big drops or anything. The bike has been hanging in my garage for the last year and I just cleaned it up real good to strip it down and rebuild it. To my dismay, I found a stress fracture in the frame right by the lower shock mount. The crack follows the contour of the weld bead. This is obviously a manufacturer issue. Does anyone know what KHS' policy is on frame replacement?

A: KHS bicycles are guaranteed to be free from defects in materials and workmanship. Chromoly frames are guaranteed for 10 years. Hardtail Aluminum frames* are guaranteed for 5 years. *KHS Aluminum and Aluminum/Carbon frames (Alite 4000, Flite 2000, Flite 900/700) are covered for 2 years. Extreme frames are covered for 1 year. Forks and all parts are guaranteed for 1 year.

The KHS does not warranty frames, forks or parts damaged from use, misuse, crashing, racing, jumping, stunt riding, improper maintenance, neglect etc.

If you have a warranty question, take your bicycle and sales receipt to your authorized KHS bicycle dealer for evaluation.

Not sure if the FXT Sport is what they consider "extreme".

KHS advised that I should take the frame to my local dealer. The local dealer advised the frame had a lifetime warranty. Not sure what will come about. The FXT Sport is an XC frame. It looks very similar to the FXT Trail that KHS has currently, but mine was full disc, which only starts at the xc204 level.
