I am going to upgrade my brakes and have questions about the Avid lineup:

Is the Carbon the same as the Seven with the exception of the carbon lever, res cap and ti fasteners? No performance difference? Same caliper? ~$70 upgrade to save 8 grams and get some carbon bling?

The Ultimate seems to be a completely different brake. Is it potentially suitable for a 200 lb. rider XC/AM use? (I think that I've eliminated Marta SL, and Mono Mini's as candidates).

Yes, Carbon and 7 are the exact same as far as performance goes.

I have only ridden the Ultimates around the parking lot. Power seems on par with the Sevens. It uses a different lever and caliper. Caliper is monobody rather than bolted. The lever is magnesium.
