I did this loop last weekend. The trail is in excellent shape, 99% rideable. Fantastic views. Have fun!
my favorite ride! well actually that jpl-inspiration point ride is the only ride i do out in that area. some guys showed my friends and i that ride 5 years ago and i fell in love. this ride was what inspired me to get my heckler a couple years ago. i still ride it on my hardtail but man do you get beat up. i remember the first time i did it, i could barely hold on and brake towards the end of the ride. my hands would cramp onto the bars and i couldn't get a finger on the brake levers a few times. i haven't met anyone else to show me the other good rides in that area. but i keep hearing about strawberry peak and redbox. i want to definately meet up with you guys one of these weekends.DtEW said:Thanks for all the feedback.
However, we ended up ditching Josephine Saddle for a ride up to Inspiration Point and of course the trip down Sam Merrill/Echo Mountain/Sunset Ridge trails. This was because there was a low pressure zone coming in (doubtless you all noticed the clouds today) and temps were dropping everywhere. We figured with Inspiration Point, if things got unbearably cold, we could always divert to the old standby, JPL.
It was darn cold (low 40's). And I have to agree with what I've read about Sam Merrill: it demands respect and caution. I wouldn't even bother with body armour; what could happen in a mishap body armour won't help, and I'd rather not have the false security tempting my aggression.
It was a great (albeit cold) ride, though.
We'll try to do Josephine Saddle/Strawberry Peak maybe the first weekend of January, weather permitting. This Monday (26th) we're going down south to do an epic in Noble Canyon. Feel free to join us!jr711 said:my favorite ride! well actually that jpl-inspiration point ride is the only ride i do out in that area. some guys showed my friends and i that ride 5 years ago and i fell in love. this ride was what inspired me to get my heckler a couple years ago. i still ride it on my hardtail but man do you get beat up. i remember the first time i did it, i could barely hold on and brake towards the end of the ride. my hands would cramp onto the bars and i couldn't get a finger on the brake levers a few times. i haven't met anyone else to show me the other good rides in that area. but i keep hearing about strawberry peak and redbox. i want to definately meet up with you guys one of these weekends.
