I got a Jones 6spd XT cassette and will be running 1x6 with an XTR shadow rear derailleur. I bought a Paul thumbie and Dura Ace shifter, but realized the positioning is not going to work too well (the shift lever hits my Formula brake mount). the question is.. can I use the Shimano XTR SL-M970 with the 6spd cassette?

Those appear to be based on the 9 speed cassette cut down to 6 speed, if so any 9 speed shifter will work fine. If the DA shifter works, the XTR will too (Same spacing and cable pull)
