I purchased this 02 supercaliber frame from these boards several weeks ago and have finally finished putting it together. I had it stripped, bead blasted, and flat black anodized. This is how it looks at least 5 days a week when commuting. I have a set of ignitors I throw on for the trails. I have been thoroughly impressed with this bike and am glad I took the plunge. Thanks for the collective insight from this forum.

And the nice thing about the flat black and no decals is that no one would want to steal it. Especially with those ghetto brake cables!

Hey Farley, killer commuter! when you say bead-blasted is that similar to shot-peened (if you know)? Did you see how the frame looked raw after that was done but before it was anodized? any pics of that stage?

I have an 03 xcaliber frame that I've wanted to send for shot-peening, but want to leave the raw peened finish, am I going to see the color changes around welds etc? That would make it look like crap. Anyone have any ideas?

funny you sat that

I always wanted a frame with the weld halos still visible, thus having an ultra industrial looking/home made looking frame. I was told by a few frame builders I was working with that the heat treating process removes the halos. bummer.

I recommend protecting even an aluminum frame from the elements. Raw aluminum will corrode if not anodized, clear coated, or painted. take a look at an early set of nokon cables to see what im talking about.

are you sure about this? I know IF delivers bikes with a shot peened finish, and no other coatings, etc... but that is titanium.

Sorry to thread hijack, maybe I should start another.
