I've noticed on the jamis site the weight for the 05 is way more than the 04. IT looks speced pretty much the same except for the pedals. Has Jamis started posting the real weights of the bike or is the 05 actually heavier?
I've heard that the increased weight on the '05 Dragon is due to some strengthening measures Jamis had to undertake. Originally designed as a feather-weight race bike, lots of folks were still buying Dragons and using them for aggressive trail riding, taking them well beyond their intended limits. Rather than fight it, Jamis just beefed up the frame to combat the "bonehead factor."
As more and more people are dabbling in all-mountain and freeriding, it looks like a lot of manufacturers have been forced to go this route. Just take a look at the new KHS hardtails, the re-designed Trek Fuels and some others. Everyone playing in the mid-price bike business is beefing up. Guess they figure someone who will pay $3,000 or more for a race rig will have the good sense to use it just for racing. Below that price, maybe notsomuch.
