Anyone else notice there is a jackrabbit population boom in the park? I almost T-boned one last week.

Maybe the recent fire caused a big rabbit food growth?

Yup, I "chased" one on the fireroad leading to lawndale the other day. It kept running forward on the side of the trail 20-30' in front of me, then would cross to the other side and stop. Once I got within about 10' of it, it would repeat the process over again. Went on for a good four to five minutes.

Reminded me exactly of the dumb ones in the desert, would run along the side of the road to avoid the car, then rather then turn in the direction to safety they would button hook it across the road usually with a coin flip outcome if they'd get clipped.

I was climbing Canyon yesterday and a small child decided to run the line ahead of me. He kept looking over his shoulder and weaving back and forth. WTH? I finally had to semi-trackstand and let him settle down, before it was safe to go around him.

Keep your kids on a leash, people! ;)

So, he out ran you? ?
? Um, No. He was coming down the hill on the left and I was climbing on the right. He saw me coming and turned toward me and then started back up on the right, in front of me. Twice, I started around him and he looked back over his shoulder and ran right in front of me. It was almost squirrel-like. I finally slowed to a near stop, and his very pregnant mom told him to stop where he was and he shot for the far right edge and off the climbing line.

As I went around him, she apologized and I said, "no worries, I just didnt want to run him over."

The kid was maybe 5, so not a lot of points, anyway. ?

There are some badass local parents. Lots of very young trail joggers escorted by parents.

And every ride with some dad or mom riding with a tiny kid on a miniature mountain bike. Pretty inspirational.

I love seeing it.

Rode their on Monday and came across three snakes. One on Ridge trail refused to move despite my proding. Eventually i just picked up the bike and lifted up over him. I think he liked his sunny location. I think a gopher snake but they sure look like rattlers if the tail is hidden.

^^^ I agree, that's probably not a rattler. It's head is pretty small.

I did see one on Lake trail, though. It was near the outhouse. I turned around to snap a pic, but he was gone.

Definitely not a rattler, that's a pacific gopher. Usually pretty chill, but I've had some big ones get pretty cranky on me before.

Niether is this dude. Lifted him off Lake Trail Sunday afternoon. Got a cool video too.
