i have my first single speed. it was my first bike, a giant boulder se. one day i was riding nice and then the rear derallier got caught on the spokes and the next thing i know its flying over my head, so after some work of finding the best gear ratio i fixed up the chain and made it a single speed. still need to try it on the trails

My first bike was also a boulder se when I first moved over here to the US. I thrashed it to death on the local trails here in philadelphia until one day it could bare no more. The fork was so hammered it almost had infinite travel (yeah, through the stem and into my face  ) and the derailuer was so worn that it did not want to shift anymore. I was so surprised it held out for more than a year with the abuse I gave it.
Anyhow, I stripped it down completely and the frame is superlight. I was going to turn it into a SS with nice new strong components but I was worried if the frame would hold up. Instead I came across a fetish cycles SS fixation frame that is really burly looking and Im told can handle my weight (200#) and abuse.
Let us know how the bike holds together because I still have the frame and I might build it up for my wife to ride as a SS or maybe a commuter bike for me :D
