Check out this new V brake from Steinbach. I don't speak German but in the brackets it would seem to say per set incl. pads (Yes?). That would be 85 g per end, possibly with some room for bolt tuning!!!!! Unreal if it is true. Return spring seems to be elastomer and I don't know what kind of noodle that is but COOL!!!!

Can someone translate this?!?

PS - For the record a set of Vuelta Mags tuned with Al+Ti bolts to the max are 109 g

1st it's a CANTILEVER brake.i see a rather short arm lenght.
2nd it says it weighs 85g PER SIDE incl pads. i translate that as a weight of 170g per pair...340g total although that seems really heavy.hmm??
as return springs it has elastomers.

looks promising though.

Its ~95 mm from centre of canti to centre of clamp bolt (got that from measuring OD and size of allen key hexagon of the bolt in the pic and comparing to actual M6 one in my drawer) so thats within V brake length. That and it seems to be set up like a V brake only with a noodle on the outside which seems like a smart weight saving.

As for the side, that could mean 2 arms too but I guess it could mean 1 also. I guess we could just email them and ask.

I'm no expert...but

I don't think these are canti's at all.. They just look like canti's. They have the standard Vbrake attach, but a little different cable attach. Canti's only bolt single right? I could be wrong, but they look like Vbrakes with a different cable attachment design. Also the 85g per side could mean "end" of bike...just a thought. ie.

those curves don't look strong to me, especially those on the outside. Wouldn't straight lines be stronger???

they're very little difference with machinetech zeroflex cantilevers as far as the arm shapes, just the arm lengths, and machinetech's were NOT flexy in the slightest. In fact, if you think about it, a triangle shape brake arm (which is sorta what these are trying to emulate, albiet with two sides being curved), is going to be a whole lot stiffer than a straight rectangular shaped brake arm that's much skinnier in profile.

At 85g per side (as in the front side and the back side) with the brackets, which is what they call the cable guides but that doesn't include the pads which will add to the mass. Also the spring mechanism is elastomer based not steel spring based. That means its temperature sensitive. Nothing like having to readjust the arms if the temperature drops. They're slightly lighter than say, Marinovative Cheap Tricks or the Mrazek Moc-Vs, and judging from the pics, already are using Al bolt hardware. Given the lack of pad spacer hardware visible in the pics and the inboard placement of the pads (which is why Machinetech did their canti's that way also), the pads likely don't add more than 30g per brake.

Well just to add to the nitpicking, I don't see how it is possible to call this a cantilever brake when it has a direct-pull cable mechanism....and don't forget that the proper name for Vbrakes is direct-pull/linear-pull brakes.

Canti's have that tri-dangle split thing....

Any thoughts about those pads? Looks like Road-style pads to me, are those worth the weight loss over V-style's?
I like the idea of road pads, as I could use these V's on my CX bike for carbon rims, as carbon-specific brake pads seem only decently available through the road-type cartridges from Dura-Ace. I could get a V-style topbar lever from Paul and Aero V-pull lever from DiaCompe for the front, to at least use the optimum line pull there.
If these brakes are really 115g incl pads and decently working, I just might get a pair for a lightweight hardtail project, too. Or does anyone want to sell me his Vuelta's?
