this syncros post vs thomson

I know syncros is not the reputable syncros of old, but in my search for a 30.9 post (xc bike, Haro), I came acoss this.
The price is right, and the reviews are good, but is there something I'm missing? I'm a bit pessimistic, and always think, "if it's too good to be true...."

And I know everyone is just in love with Thomson (I have a Thomson stem on the frame in need of a new post, and a Thomson post on the other bike), but if I can save some $$$ and a bit of weight, is the Syncros just as good for xc racing and trailriding?

Old syncros, just barely predates the bankruptcy and GT buyout era. Actually you could say that the carbon post was one of the factors that led to the bankruptcy. Also considering the new syncros is owned by Tom Ritchey, I'd say its better than the old one.

There were some guys that went down in the T de F from broken stem/handlebars. Over at the roadreview they some said they were Ritchey carbons, don't know if this is true.

Just replaced a 30.8mm x 385mm Thomson with a Syncros carbon 30.9x350 from Ebay on one of my NRSs. 3-4 rides now, including an all day suffer fest at Pisgah a couple weeks ago. Got mine for $39.95. They've gone up since tho. Works fine for me.

Yeah, they went up, way up, but now the guy is back down to $39.95.
Sounds like it's a worthy post, and for a darn good price.
