Is Telegraph Pass rideable?

I rode to the end of Desert Classic today. I thought it would be fun to come back to Pima Canyon by riding down National. Just make a great big loop. Telegraph Pass looks pretty steep though.

Anyone ever done it?

I've always walked up. I think it would be pretty brutal on your legs to try and ride up. But if you're into that kinda thing...:skep:

The trail is too steep to ride up. But sometimes when I just can't face another mile on the Desert Classic I push my bike (and carry it on the really steep sections) and it isn't really so bad, because the steep part is actually pretty short. If I remember right the hike-a-bike only takes twenty minutes.

Then you have the pleasant cruise up the road up to Buena Vista. On summer mornings the steep part is usually still in the shade. Sometimes I'll turn and ride up the upper easy section of Holbert to National. Last time I did this it was Silent Sunday and the roadies had already ridden and gone home, so the road was the best way because I had it all to myself.

I really enjoy this loop.

Pleasant, yeah that is a good way to describe it. :p

Hmm, 20 minutes of hike-a-bike. That doesn't sound too horrible. Thanks for the info. I'm gonna give it a shot.
I did this loop in reverse today. You might be able to ride down Telegraph, if you are a BADASS. ( I am not ) but there are waaay too many hikers on it.
It's not too bad riding down it now, a lot of the ugly stuff got washed away in the rain a while back. It is very crowded though which makes it not very appealing. Hiking up is pretty simple and quick, been doing that loop about once a month since the weather cooled off.
It's not that bad a hike-a-bike, but its a blast coming down. good long downhill run from the catwalk to the bottom.

.
Yep, you got to ride it during the week early or when it is 120 degrees outside in order to make a run with few or no hikers. I last time I HIBed up it and felt like I passed 50 people. They all looked at me like there was something seriously wrong with me for carrying my bike.
The lower portion is rideable up to the rock steps. Then I carry until the flat section midway and pedal to the switch back and carry again. It takes under 15 minutes, but does suck in the summer. After you do it a couple times, its not so bad.
It's a fairly simple hike-a-bike.........as far as hike-a-bikes go. I've done it several times b/c we like to ride down Telegraph but can't stomach the 9 miles of boredom back to Pima on D.C. :)

I keep looking at it every time we pass by, but its always crowded. Looks fun.
It's rideable all the way down but pretty sketchy for sure. I haven't done the descent in a long time, just isn't the right direction for me (either have to do DC back or climb up again). Not to mention all the traffic...
