Purchased a 210x55 ohlins shock to replace the same size Fox DPS. The Fox measured an exact 210mm eye to eye. The travel also measured 55mm. The ohlins however, using the same tape measure, looks closer to 207mm in length and ~52mm in travel. Doesn’t something seem odd here? Talking to Ohlins on the phone they didn’t seem to think so but I have a hard time believing this is right.

Try slowly deflating the shock and reinflate while cycling the shock every so often. Perhaps there is suckdown from a pressure imbalance between the positive and negative springs causing the shock to not reach full extension.

There was a guy in the Epic Evo 2021 thread putting this shock into Epic evo and he could not use the same stroke as with rockshox due to seat stay bridge hitting the seat tube. You may be right with your measurements and if so, these shocks are undersized.

You’ve probably done this, but remove all air and sit on the seat to fully bottom out the shock. Leave the O-ring there and then re-inflate the shock. Then you can see the real world what the actual travel is.

Years ago I purchased a Cane Creek DB coil. My original RS Monarch measured exactly 200mm eye to eye. CC came in @ 197mm. I called CC customer service and went back and forth about 200mm should be 200mm. Well CC employee must have got tired of my bantering and told me it's 3mm go ride your bike and come back and tell me if it is still bothersome - I gave up and rode the bike.

Measure eye to eye at full bottom. Then with air still removed, manually pull it to top out and measure eye to eye... likely two person job unless you remove the schrader valve core.

It's probably just the negative chamber causing the drop into travel.

Haha kind of a surprising response. Sounds like poor QA. And I’d agree if it were only a couple mm. But when it’s a few at the shock, that can translate to a good amount of total suspension travel. 3-4mm at the shock can be 10mm or more of total suspension travel at the wheel and drop the BB a similar amount.

Thanks. I’ll give it another shot. I know I cycled it at a few points when I first set it up but might as well start over and try it again. And good idea on checking it aired down. Didn’t think of that.
