So I usually carry my iPhone in a pocket in the back of my jersey. When it starts getting sweaty it seems to try and trigger opening the phone. Which then asks for a face id or password unlock. Which of course doesn't happen (its in my pocket). After a number of these cycles the phone just locks up. I have also had the phone call my emergency contact randomly or the siri function not work properly because the phone is trying to unlock.

So how do I get this phone to stay locked when the screen is being touched BUT still be able to unlock it from time to time on the ride via a different method?

Turn it off.

Which iPhone model do you have? There are lock features on all recent iPhones. I’ve never needed it or experienced anything that you describe from iPhone 5 to the present iPhone 12pro. That’s like 5 models I’ve had with others in between and I’ve never experienced anything like what you’ve described or have heard of it on any model. But, if you really are experiencing an issue like this go Google up “Lock Screen” for the model that you have.

edit: or reboot it like downcountry said.

Mine rides in my baggy shorts pocket. Has for 48.4 years without issue. Screen towards my leg by the way.
Wait… you’ve had a cell phone for over 48 years? Holy Early Adopter, Batman!

Zip lock baggy could work.

But, like others mention here - I make sure the screen faces outward. And I also have an Otter Box that has rubber on the edges that keeps it from moving. But, I guess I do this when I’m on my road bike. MTB/Gravel, I wear in my short pocket or my camel back.

So its mainly when I ride road or XC with a road style jersey. Love the guy saying turn it off. Like some of us actually work and still want to ride. LOL. Mounting on a bar isn't a good option. I have a lot of bikes and use a Garmin head unit...

How,do you work and ride at the same time? Or are you “working” and need to be able to answer calls?

And I guess you all have good cell coverage. Where I’m riding there’s no signal 90% of the time. I only take it because it makes the wife worry less.

Disable "raise to wake".

Use a Phoozy (available on-line). That protects the phone from heat, cold, moisture and gives some added protection if you crash on it. I use the Phoozy to keep the battery from premature death in winter when skiing but it will solve your issues too.

It's a serious option. I keep my phone on because I use the camera a lot, but if that wasn't the case I'd turn it off. I ride in places with terrible cell reception and there's not much point in leaving it on for connectivity. As for working while riding, WTF? Hell to the f*ck no.

I flip my phone over so the screen faces away from my sweaty body. Easy peasy.
