Installed a 2008 Fox DHX 5.0 Air with the small air sleeve on my 2007 Mission 3 to replace the RP23. I am at about 170 lbs and run 180 psi in air spring and 140 psi in the reservoir. It took a while to get the adjustments sorted out, but the mid range provided a totally different feel to the bike - the shock seems to actually work in this range vs. the rp23. The peddle is firmer and the ride more dampened. I also installed heavy duty hardware on the working end of the shock (the end connected to the bell crank). If you go to http://www.tftunedshox.com/Additional-Departments/Mount-Kits-and-Bushings/Mount-Kits-127mm you can find the kit - ships from England, but I could not find a kit from the USA with the rubber seals. It includes a ground hollow stainless steel pin that press fits into the shock bushing, 2 aluminum spacers that float on the OD of the pin, 2 rubber seals that seal out dirt/water and a shock polymer bushing. This setup runs dry - no lube or you will attract dirt and destroy it. Your factory 8mm retaining bolt fits through the inside of the pin or you can do it the right way and use a grade 8 cap screw and locking nut. This is the same mounting design used on the highly respected 1999 X6 and X10 Diamondback Racing frames and it works. I have owned 2 of these frames and yes they had the 6 inch travel option.
This conversion makes it much easier to service the bushing on the end of the shock that wears out, by simply pressing the pin out of the shock (vise and socket) instead of wrestling with the Fox aluminum "hats" and it is a stronger one piece bearing for the shock as well.
The kit required is: M8 X 22mm X 12.7diameter.
That means the bolt size is 8 mm, the SS pin is 22mm long and the pin diameter is 12.7 mm or 1/2 inch - standard Fox bushing diameter for many years.
