Coming from a singlespeed mtb and road bike background, the variety of shifting choices for geared mtb's is doing my head in.

Any good links to explain: the pros/cons of rapidfire, or of brake/shift (sti) levers versus seperate shifter and brake levers, or the differences between XTR/XT/LX?

I am looking at mechanical disc brakes with shimano drivetrain only.
