I grew up in Brentwood and then some in NJ before headig out to the left coast. I am taking my kids to meet family in the Mineola area in August.

Two weeks without any riding seems like a long time. My cousin lives in Rocky Point with the others more in Queens too. Any ideas for bike rental and where to ride. Is there any climbing on LI? I recall flat sandy terrain but then I am used to riding in the Santa Cruz mountains here in Ca.

Looking forward to the trip and a side vacation from the boys would be nice!

Thanks,
Kat

To rent a bike on LI call:

Rocky Point Cycles 631-744-5372
TJM Cycles 631-924-4220

To ride Rocky Point Trail (20 miles total...less than 2 hours ride time) immediately send away for your free DEC permit:

You can ride Cathedral Pines Mountain Bike Trail in Medford...without any permits...an easy 12 mile trail.

To rent a bike in Queens call:

Peak Mountain Bike Pro Shop 718-225-5119

From there you can ride Bethpage State Park, The Green belt Trail (Trail View State Park) and Stillwell Woods in Syosset which are all inter-connected.

Or, from Queens you can head up to Westchester to Sprain Ridge (30 minutes) or Blue Mountain (60 minutes) for serious climbing.

Go here to contact Concerned Long Island Mountain Bikers (CLIMB) for more info:

thanks for the info

I appreciate it. There's plenty of climbing at home so I am ok with or without it. Acutally I do better on the climbing than the flats!

Leaving in less than 2 weeks.:eekster:
gotta pack!
