Indexing rear mech

Hi, I've just installed a used but in good shape rear mech and new gear cable. I followed GMBN tech to be sure I did it correctly, but the bloody thing won't change right.

I've set the B-limit and tuned the upper and lower limiting screws accordingly as best I could. Should be a no-brainer. But it won't shift to the smallest sprocket nor the largest. Shifts like a knife through butter through the 8 others.

Anybody have any tips or other videos to help index an older sram xo rear mech?

Assuming the shifter is the correct SRAM 10 speed shifter, the next thing I would check is that the mech hanger is properly aligned.

How old is the SRAM XO? I believe older ones come in 9 speed and that wouldn't work on a 10-speed cassette

It's a 10spd and I realigned the hanger.

Are you sure the limits are set correctly. Start with them turned out, they should not affect the indexing and only act like end stops. Sounds to me like they are turned in too much

I'm with @jeffrjohns. The indexing in the shifter really takes care of all the middle gears and the limit screws take care of the small and big sprockets/cogs.

Another idea would be that you're off one click on the shifter, but I'd rule that out since you can't get into both the small AND big sprocket.

Disconnect the cable at the rear derailleur. Remove the chain. Now physically move the derailleur through the range. If you can't manually reach the smallest and largest cogs then the limit screws are too far in. If the range is fine, then it's a shifter issue.
