ok so i bought a rockshox pilot offa jensonusa.com and when i install it on my trek singletrack it feels kinda loose, feels like a i need some kinda spacer at the bottom of the neck where the bearings are just floating there right before the fork, seems kinda weird that there is nothing inbetween the two, anyone got any ideas? my other rockshox fork had like a piece of rubber stuck to it that seemed to fit in there well.

Did you take the crown race off of the old fork and install it on the new one? Sounds like the bearings are just riding against the crown....

You can carefully tap it off with a screwdriver. Just tap around the race gently until it pops off of the crown. You can CAREFULLY tap it onto the other one but I'd probably take it by your local shop and have them look at it. You may have damaged your headset in the process. And I'd get a copy of Zinn & the art of mountain bike maintenance. A great book to have when your wrenching on your bike.
