Was he a diabetic? She mentioned a blood tester.

In any case, it sucks.
It awful to lose a member of the Norcal tribe.

I don't believe I've met Chris personally, but I recall the big rides he went on and wrote about on MTBR.

Yes he was, this truly sucks big time
Below is a typical Brainstump ride report with GPS data and loads of pics ... MTBR lost a little bit of "passion" yesterday.

Oh and before I'd ever been to Downieville, Chris left us with this gem of exploration. Interesting, his description of Second Divide. I"ll have to ride it next time in town.

Very sad. Very sad. RIP Chris... let us know what the singletrack is like where you are.
This is awful. He was such a nice guy, followed my recovery after I broke my leg. He was a lot of fun to ride with; I'm sad I didn't ride with him more.
Omg!

Chris was a great guy to ride with. He always had the choicest post ride beverages. Stone IPA was a regular in his cooler...man had great taste and could ride like the wind

Rode quite a few times with Chris at south yuba. The 1st time we rode together he tested some gawd awful high blood sugar level before taking a shot. "most people would be in a coma by now" is what he told me....after that whenever we rode together I was constantly reminding him to test his blood. I know that he was extremely passionate about MTB and he shared my love for the South Yuba Trail. Wish we had a chance to ride together more often.

Farewell Chris....you will be remembered.

Yup. There's even a picture of his tester and insulin kit in his "Rose to Toad's" thread:

Sad day for Norcal. Chris was a great guy and a really strong rider.

RIP Chris. We'll miss ya.
I will remember him fondly. Didn't get to ride with him, but he was so kind and big-hearted. Truly a loss to us all. My prayers are with you in this difficult situation.

she posted originally in Passion, and may not know her way around the forums. Jim
Fran liked the idea of doing a memorial ride to spread Chris' ashes on a trail (or trails) he loved. His twin brother and his older brother would like to come along, as would his 17 year old son. For those interested in participating in some sort of memorial ride, let's get a date and location set.

Looking at his motionbased logs, he rode a ton around Lake Natoma/Folsom Lake and Auburn, which might be good locales for his family, since Fran said they haven't done much mt. bike riding.

High country options could be South Yuba, TRT, Downieville, etc. I'll put my vote in for the TRT.

Maybe we do 2 rides?

If there is a second ride, I'd vote for the TRT also, since his profile states that it was his favorite trail, probably on Freel Pass the highest point of the trail

I would love to participate and help organize a ride for Chris but I'm off the bike for at least 2 months, probably this whole season.

Chris loved the TRT. He also enjoyed riding in Auburn. I agree with Jeff with regards to Freel Pass/ Freel Meadow but it's probably important he family be able to participate also.
I'll come for sure if I can. I have a busy July so I'll STFU about dates and let you all figure out when to have the ride. If I can be there, I will. Just wanted to throw in my support of the idea.
Options

I like the South Yuba idea best and it is more accessible for family.

The Bench on TRT would be a good option and not to bad of a hike for family.

Freel would be the most scenic and cool place but not easily accessible for family

I'm in no matter what.
