Got this from Med wheel, All yall need to go!

Every 10 years or so the City updates the city-wide Parks, Recreation, Trails, and Open Space Master Plan. Attendance by as many mountain bikers as possible is crucial, as there will be onsite voting to gauge interest in various initiatives. This is not an open house, please arrive on time.

This will be held next Wednesday, April 30th at the City Auditorium at 221 E Kiowa Street, Colorado Spings, CO 80906 at 6:30 PM

We need lots of people out to vote for issues important to mountain bikers.

Some points MWTA considers most important for mountain bikers in the region:

Somewhere in our Parks system, we believe it’s appropriate to include dedicated-use facilities for new styles of riding – pump tracks, slopestyle (like Valmont in Boulder) and true downhill trails. We really want to make this clear , this is the most important point

We support more resources for maintenance of existing parks – but not at the cost of acquiring less new Trails, Open Spaces and Parks. The TOPS tax for acquisition of new recreation opportunities should be extended, but not converted to a maintenance fund.
Parks should move ahead with a Trail Standards manual, so that all volunteer groups know NOT to install features that can’t be used by cyclists like the stairs on Section 16.

You do realize that TOPS also requires placement of a conservation easement on every property purchased with TOPS funds?

Conservation easements ban special events from taking place in these parks like Red Rocks/Section 16 and also prohibit the construction of things like the bike parks which you are also advocating. That's why you cannot expand the bike park at Red Rocks.

Also, the reason trails are closed is because Open Space maintenance department does not have any money. This also takes away from our community parks where our kids play since funds are being diverted from City Parks to Open Space to pay for the maintenance shortfall.
This is a huge issue for those of us involved in youth sports. We have no fields to play on and those that are available don't have turf.

What Med Wheel should be supporting is rewriting the TOPS tax to remove the passive-use only clause in the tax code and also eliminate the conservation easement requirement on land purchases or require them to be for a limited time such as 20 years so that land use can be reviewed periodically and modified based on community wishes.
