Hi Everyone,
I received word from IMBA that the Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew is scheduled to visit us on February 23-26, 2006. I'll post more details as we get them ironed out. Let's get the word out and get a great showing for Southern Nevada.

For more details check out:

That's cool. They came up to Ely summer '04. It was pretty productive. We went on a good ride with them Friday afternoon, had a trail building seminar that evening, built about .5 miles of trail including a built up, climbing swithcback, and they did some PR at the local high school.

TCC Updates

The Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew details are getting ironed out. Visit the Barta website for details and an event flyer (I'll post the schedule there until everything is set in stone --that way I can change information once IMBA gets back to me). Give me a call if you want to participate -- my number is on the flyer on the http://www.barta-nv.com homepage.

BARTA is working with the BLM on getting a new trail bypass constructed. Hopefully, I can get them (BLM) to let us do it. If not we'll probably redo Viagra, maybe even rerouting it a bit to be more sustainable without changing to fast flowing feel. Either way, we'll be working in the Cottonwood Trail Sytem.

Was I vague enough on the first part? I really can't discuss my preferred option - yet. I'm hoping that we can get the BLM to play nice with us and let us work the new section.

You got that bike up and running? If so, better start putting the hammer down!

The City of LV is building some equestrian trailhead parks around the Lone Mt area, hopefully they will be able to swing some multi-use trails from adjacent developers.

Viagra or the 2 Mile Smile is the section of trail on the Latenight Loop is the downhill section from the top of the hill west of the trailhead that goes all the way to the wash. The fun part that we bomb as fast as possible (I've hit 30 mph on several occasions). ;) Unfortunately, the rain last fall did a number on it and maybe - if we have to -- we can reroute it a little to be less suseptable to water damage -- yet still fun to bomb down. That is still my second choice of trail work locations though.

I think I remember now. Its that section we hit in that last ride with You, Krob, me and my friend Jerry. Yeah, that is a fun section.

Eric, Im finishing up the cables for my rear brake. I finally got a presta gauge today. I havent been on my bike for about 6 months now so I dont think I can hang at cowboy, even at an easy pace. I need to geet back into the groove of things so Ill take it easy for about a month. If I can get a few friends to come along, its a maybe for me.

IMBA TCC Details

I got confirmation from IMBA today. We will get two Subaru / IMBA Trail Care Crews at our February Trail Building School. Yeah!

A segment from the IMBA TCC Coordinator's note:
You guys will be getting two Crews - Jill Van Winkle and Chris Bernhardt, as well as Ryan Schutz and Kristin Butcher (our new Crew who will be training with Jill and Chris). Just direct them in a good direction for a hotel. Thanks for the offer to feed them!

I am going to send an Evite early next week to invite folks in the region. Hopefully this will increase attendance, as well as let people know what good work you all are doing.

Here is the location of our event flyer. Feel free to print some out for your local shops.

Let's see if we can get 40-50 participants to come out for the classes.

Thanks,
Matt

Good stuff! I might arrive a little late at REI on Friday night (finish work at 5 but I work downtown). I'm looking forward to the rest of the weekend though :) Haven't been on the bike much lately (got a bit distracted with Geocaching - Harry got me a GPS for Christmas). Maybe this will kick start me back into the MTBing mood.

GeoBiking

Havent you heard. It is a new sport. You take the Geocache coordinates and you rid your bike to cas close as you can. You cache it and ride on, great fun.

Here is one for you to try.

Diamond Back Snake Cache.

It is in Cottonwood Valley, sounth of the highway by Satan's Elevator.

Getting the details worked out

It's looking like we'll get the trailwork location all set this week. With any luck, we'll be repairing the upper section of the Deadhorse Loop between Satan's Escalator and the Overlook. It is in the burn area -- so it is possible that the BLM won't let us work up there. Jared Fisher from Escape Adventures / Las Vegas Cyclery has volunteered to supply a shuttle vehicle to get workers up to the work site.

Hope to see everyone there on Feb 23rd & 24th.

Okay,
We've got ourselves and plan. Saturday, we'll be working to fix the Red Valley (general repairs and rut repairage) and/or the top of the the Dead Horse Loop as mentioned above. I'll take the crews up for a ride next Friday for a survey ride and we'll decide then which would be the best for the group.

Either way, we'll meet Saturday morning at 9:00am at the main Cottonwood Valley Trail Head (the one witht the restrooms).

Lets get the word out!

Matt
