This came to my attention from our friends at Big Bend Trails Alliance.

The National Parks Service will be performing an Environmental Assessment for the development of multi-use trail (including cycling) in Big Bend National Park. While this is only for a short (5mi) section, it may help us get a foot in the door and set precedent for the development of biking trails in the National Parks system.

IMBA has called for an Action Alert regarding this and has several suggested talking points.

I sent my comments in....we have been mtn biking in a unit of NPS located on the TN/KY border since 1989 so I could give them a LOT of comments about our successful relationship with NPS,tons of volunteer trail construction/maintenance, adopting the trails, sharing trails with hikers, backcountry patrols, aiding the NPS with Search and Rescue, putting on races/events, etc etc. Maybe they will listen down in Texas and get on board:thumbsup: .

The US Forestry Service in the Tombigbee National Forest (Noxubee Hills Trail System aka The Nox) are very big supporters of the mtn biking-hiking trails on their property.
