IL has dozens of decorative license plates that cost more than regular $98 annual plates, the excess of which goes toward a certain fund or charity.

however in AZ dont you pay a vehicle registration tax based on the current value of your vehichle? or is there a separate charge for the actual plate?
12 years ago when i had truck plates (and was into final fantasy), i had CHOCOBO vanity plates.

The problem is once the state gets the money, there is no guarantee they will use it as intended. We now have to pay $25 a year to register our offroad motorcycles with the intention/promise of using the money to improve riding areas, but as far as I know, they are now using the money for "general fund".

That would be super cool, my idea was a state parks plate and with that plate you were covered for all the park passes in the state.
That's the ticket!
But AZ needs copper & guns on the plate, maybe a prospector, a Gila Monster, and a rattler too!

A mountain biker on a copper painted FS in crusty prospector attire with an old Colt on his hip, X'd up stylin' off a jump over a Gila Monster and a Diamondback rattler!
Yeah! that's the ticket. lol

I believe that a certain amount ($17 out of the $25) actually goes to the the organization the plate represents.

Unlike the offroad one that just goes to the government.
