Anyone here have a Independent Fabrication 29'er? Ran a search but it didn't yield much.

Love to see some pics or hear some feedback. I ordered mine yesterday. The custom process is really cool. Now comes the bad part. Having to wait.
I recently bought a PISSOFF (made by IF) as a custom 29er SS setup for wedding presents with the wife (she went 26) I LOVE this bike as it's custom and fits like a glove. I can try to send pics later but you can find a pic or two in a Phil wood thread as they posted the pics on this site. I had to wait a bit but well worth the final results. I'm 6'8" so the tubing and everything has been dialed in perfectly...my only regret is not being able to afford a geared 29er at the moment to match my PISSOFF. You will not be sorry as these guys make some of the best frames...plus they ride the East Coast terrain and these bikes can handle the nastiest rack infested rooty trail possible without a problem. Nothing bad to say about just wait and be happy.

don't own one

but I wandered into my LBS a couple weeks back and they had an IF SS 29er hanging from the rafters. It was beautiful, one of the nicest looking bikes I've seen in person.
I'm sure the wait will be well worth it.

<------ only had to wait 4 weeks. I really like the way it ride. If I had known how much I like riding a non-suspension fork, I would of opted for the non-suspension corrected geometry, and an IF fork...

I've got one. I am very happy with it. I ride it all the time. I got it built singlespeed with EBB and suspension corrected fork geometry, in their "intense blue pearl" color. I ran a karate monkey fork through August, when I put a Reba on it. I like the Reba, but I miss the rigid and I am awaiting a new rigid fork from Vicious.

Just running out the door...

but wanted to post a quick reply. I picked up a near new 29r frame off Eb a while back and it has proved to be everything I have hoped for and more. Mine is built with an EBB, disk only rear, and a derailleur hanger. I originally set it up as a 1x9, but built up a set of SS wheels shortly after. While it wasn't built for me it fits like a gloves, and has a intuitive, supple ride and has proved to be the bike of choice for just about all situations.
I also have a geared 29r that I use for road trips, but the Indy is the one I always reach for. I'll be back in town in a few days and will follow up with some other observations.

I think you will be very happy with your choice.

Yup! This is IF 29"er #1. I love this bike...since this bike was the guinea pig and the first one built, it has some small issues like rear tire clearance (I'll never fit anything bigger than a 2.1" in the rear) but other than that it has been an amazing bike.

Good choice, you will be very happy.

Of course you are familiar with this bike Go-Kart but today was the first time I saw it with the new fork.
It is super sweet.
Beets the crap out of that old Winwood fork that was on it.

Nice. I had heard tell the mythical IF lefty, but had not made it by the shop since it had been completed.

I need one too, but I'll let Bob ride his for a while and make sure it's sorted out. If it holds up to him it should work for anyone.

Oh brother, another IF!

Here is my brother's custom IF Steel Deluxe. He has been riding it since 2003.

The opportunity to go custom fell into to his lap when IF offered an outstanding bike shop employee program. It made me sick, so I will not tell you the deal he received.

Here is the spec list:

-Sram XO drivetrain with 9.0 front derailleur
-Thompson post
-Snake skin Flite SLR
-Bontrager X Lite stem with XXX Lite carbon bar
-King headset
-Truvativ Stylo GXP crankset
-Marz Marathon fork
-Sram 9.0sl brake levers with Avid BB7 disc brakes
-WTB LaserLite disc hubs with Salsa Delgado rims
-Maxxis Ignitors replaced the Bonty ACX tires
-Nice sparly blue paint!!

Take a look at the pic. It is from this summer.

I rode a friend's while in Utah this fall. It was the most perfect feeling bike I have ever ridden. It is an I.F. ti, and was dressed pretty well. It inspired confidence, especially descending. Simply an amazing bike. If I had not already put money down on a Dean XLite 29er I would would have ordered one that day. I still have trouble shaking the memory of that day, knowing that the most perfect bike I had ever sit upon would never be mine, as this guy never sells his custom ti frames. Damn

All things being equal (fit, geometry, tubing etc), IF doesn't have some secret sauce that makes them a better feeling bike than others, do they. I hope to hear an answer of "no" to my question because on my desk at work, I have a completed order form for both Vulture and Curtlo, one of which will be sent in next week with a deposit. I am leaning towards the Curtlo because I prefer the Bushnell BB and those nice curved seatstays.

GC, since there's been a lot of talk lately about wait times, curious the leadtime you were quoted, price you're paying, color you're choosing, steel or Ti, and the sizes/geometry...

Beats the hell out of me. It was supposedly welded the end of last week. If it makes it by the end of November it will have been 2 3/4 months. I was promised 5-7 weeks. No big deal I knew about the delays when I ordered. The savings was pretty incredible for a US made butted ti frame. I had it done custom and I think the total will be either 1650 or 1700. John is cutting me a sweet deal on a cross frame too when I am ready.

I just hope that it rides sweet. I hope the welds are beautiful. I hope that the frame weighs in under 3.5 lbs. (I was promised sub 3 lbs but I am not holding my breath)

By the way, good choice on the curtlo. I have had several of them. All have ridden very well. The best frame I have ever OWNED (the I.F. 29er rode better) was my 29er curtlo which I stupidly sold this summer, to drum up cash for the Dean XLite 29er. I should have just kept it. My present curtlos are a road frame and a single speed 26er, that I am restoring.

I would go with Doug over Vulture unless you really love their paint jobs. You can alway have the Curtlo painted all fancy too and still come out cheaper. Banana stays rule. I have had them on most of my curtlos. Frankly, I love Doug because he has been around forever but doesn't act like he knows it all. Doug has a huge amount of fit experience. I am not sure about Vulture because I have never thought seriously about them. If you are looking at Northwest frame builders (Curtlo in WA, and Vulture in Bend) you might also look up Desalvo.

Had this a bit over a year now, great ride.

Great experience with IF.

Um...WOW!

Did I miss the "big post" on this bike.

Give us some details man. The first picture makes it kind of look like a 26/29, but by some of the other bikes you have posted (Retrotec and Vicious right?) I would think you are sold on the big wheels.

What else you got hiding in that stable of yours?
