Kathi and I rode our bikes into the New Year last night with a ride out to Flathorn on the Iditarod Trail and back through Point Mackenzie. Left the parking lot at Knik Bar about 3:00 pm and got back at 1:30 am. The first 15 miles were fast with a little loose snow over hard pack. After the Little Su it softened up a lot but was still rideable with Endos and a loaded bike. The swamps after the Nome sign were Really soft but rideable at walking speed. Flathorn was punchy. The swamps out of Flathorn were hard and fast but the pipeline was really stirred up and washy. Great ride!!! The Knik 200 starts this Sat. so any of you planning to head out that way might want to check their start time so you don't tangled up with the puppies.
Happy New Year
