Don't know why they officially call these areas Park N' Ski when they're such great places to fat bike! Went out to Whoop Um Up and Gold Fork areas last week with my fat bike. Mid teen temps and just a couple inches of fresh snow created great conditions. Whoop has ungroomed trails which were packed down nicely by snowshoers. Gold Fork has groomed trails for XC skiers but fat bikes are allowed if they ride to the right to keep the skater skiers happy! Got first tracks in a few places but a group of snowshoers got out just ahead of me on the main trail. The Whoop trails were quite a challenge to stay on the narrow packed trail and out of the soft stuff on the edges. Gotta watch where you step too since I post holed a couple times stepping off the bike! The groomed trails at Gold Fork were easier to ride but not as fun. There are a couple of snowshoe trails there. I rode one but the other didn't looked packed down enough. The area is about 20 miles NE of Idaho City and just over an hour from Boise.
Went back today. Lots of nice snowshoers did some great trail maintenance and packed down all the trails in the system over the weekend including the Whoop Um Up trail pictured below. It's about a 1.8 mile loop which had about a 1/3 mile HAB on the climb for me. Great descent despite hitting a soft spot and going OTB! Very soft landing so no harm done!
