Yes either the Ice Spiker Pro
http://www.schwalbetires.com/node/1787
or Nokian Hakka WXC300
http://www.suomityres.fi/winter.html
both are <700g.
I have Nokian Extreme 294s which are very good but have wire beads and are 950g each, which is similar to the standard Ice Spiker, so either of those if you're on a budget.

I second the Nokian WXC300, light, incredibly good on ice, decent in snow if its not too powdery or the kind of wet snow that shears and squishes out when you put weight on it.

im not cheap, im looking for a set of £50+ set (any suggestions up to £150) i dont know if that sounds cheap.

the conditions are, 5 inches thick ice, no snow, muddy, cold, miserable. you get the picture.

For bare ice, the Nokian WXC300's are really incredible, 300 carbide studs per tire with aluminium barrels, 600gms per tire, enough grip to make discs squeal under downhill braking on ice, and you can almost ride smooth bare ice as fast as dirt. If it's rough ice they tend to loose grip once they start bouncing across the rough stuff. Over here they are about £50 each but they will last forever if you don't run them on dry pavement a lot.

what are other riders in that race using?
In most races isn't that a good indicator what tire to pick? (depending on race day conditions of course)

everybody else had schwalbes "ice spiker" - not the pro version, only around 100 of the riders brought ice tyres, the others had to push up the climbs and crawl down the hills. and fall. the pro would give the cornering stability aswell i think. i probably will go with them.

I have the Nokian 294's and they amazed me with how good the traction was on sheer ice! I would have gotten the WXC 300's if I'd known better. But I'll lose a few pounds and call it even. ;-)
