I tore one of the knobs off my Nevegal

I have a 2.3 Kenda Nevegal on the front of my Heckler and noticed after my last ride that one of the side knobs has torn completely off. This is most likely due to me shredding the gnar-core and the tire getting owned. (That's a joke) It's definitely through the first layer and I can see the next layer of material that has diagonal lines running on a lighter shade of rubber. Is this tire done? Will it fail if I ride it more, or does it still have some life left? It still has a lot of tread left, except for that one spot. Thanks in advance for any advice.

i wouldn't chance it. worst fall i've had was a front blowing out on me.

$40 for the peace of mind (or 'piece of mind' if you like maiden) is worth it.

better yet, sometimes kenda will warranty it if it's a manf. defect.
Very common problem that's why its no nevegals for me. Use the blue groove in the front the knobbies are larger and don't shear off!
Welcome to the club. Nevegals like to shed knobs, apparently. I'm phasing them out of my stash of tires.

Fill the area with Shoe Goo and keep using it
Back in the day (1998) I had a set of Specialized Cactus Cup tires for riding in Vegas (they were huge...2.25" LOL)

I lost a cornering knob after only a couple rides and just glued a patch over the area and rode them for another 6 months with no issues

"Back in the day"? LOL For me '98 was the day before yesterday!
The problem is once one goes the rest follow fast, shoe goo is a fix but when its time they all go especially DTC and sticky versions. Seems they last 6-9 months of summer conditions then the rubber dries out and shears off. YMMV ...my first was in '83 with spec ground controls... those were very nice tire at the time, damn age suxs ;)
Yea, I started riding in 1992 with a full rigid Mongoose IBOC

I just laugh because I remember thinking those tires were HUGE...combined with my long travel kit (75mm) Englund Total Air cartridges in my Judy I was smokin' the trails in Blue Diamond

Last year I tried to put a Dart 2.2 (NOS) on the front of my stock '86 MB-1 (same as the one I bought new "back-in-the-day" as my 2nd mtb). No-go, the side knobs rub!

'83? VERY early prototypes! The GC came out in '85.

Yeah bought the tires in 85, can't remember what it came with... still use it daily, mostly a grocery hauler and beach bike but it does have some memories of trails long gone, oh well..

Thanks for all the advice. I'm going to get a new one, the front tire blowout doesn't sound that great to me after I thought about it.

This is exactly what seems to have happened. Upon closer inspection I found another one that's cracked and gonna go soon.
