You read it correctly.
I was on my way out of Stevens Canyon trail last night at about 8 pm . I just crossed the small stream that connects to the main creek in the trees right before (or after depending on your direction) the big creek crossing to exit the trail to Stevens Canyon Rd. I turned the corner and up ahead about 10 ft in front of me there was a fully grown coyote running at full speed with a mountain lion chasing him!!! :eekster:
They were headed straight at me in the opposite direction. I had no time to react. The coyote whizzed past me on the left and the mountain lion SLAMMED into the front of my bike. Somehow I didn’t crash. The lion jetted to the right and jumped down an embankment to the other side of the creek.
I took a quick look at him.
He was massive and very scary, and looked pretty pissed off. His legs were thick, and his tail must have been a good 4 ft long and thick as a Pringles can.
The adrenaline was pumping full throttle in me at this point. I shouted at the top of my lungs as I crossed the creek, climbed out, and exited the gate. Luckily he didn't follow me.
For the entire 2 mile ride back to my car all I could say was, "Holly S**T!" , "OH MY GOD!" I've always wanted to see a lion in the wild, but NOT like this. Needless to say, I drank a lot of beer last night. That coyote owes me big time.
