Share your toughts!

I fell of a cliff yesterday, i was riding a downhill called the "tequila shot" in Mazatlan, Mexico. It is a very steep rocky descent that makes a sharp turn with a cliff right next to it.
Since i have been giving it several atemps and i wasn`t being able to nail the turn i decided to give it more spped at the rock steps before it to attack it in a more stable way....
More speed= More stabilty at rocks right?

Well it turned out like i tought until i reached the turn and i couldnt stop at all riding straight into into the cliff.... ( i felt like a red bull hucker for a sec.)
i fell from one huge rock to another attached to my bike trying to grab trees and rocks to slow down until my bike got hookesd up just at the beggining of a new drop  yeah i was lucky

So my arm got a severe hit and started sweeling right away i have all my left leg with bruises scraps and contusons, my back is killing me and since my left hand glove fell off  it s all scrapped and in pain.

I had a difficult time to climb my way back up... and i realized just how lucky i was by getting off with that fall with just minor scraps and contusions, at the time i felt that i had a fisure in my arm because of the swelling and pain bt it was just a muscle sweeling.

Have you ever felt this way before?

i have heard of peopple dying or getting severely messsed up with accidents less hard than this one. i felt another of my seven lives being taken away from me.

BTW my bike didnt even get a flat tire or a bent rim, a disc brake rotor got out of true, my poplock screw is missing, a side of my my seat ripped a little bit, and the shifter indicator broke (which looks cool and will make me remind this crash everytime i ride again). but i couldnt find any more damages not even scratches from the crash.

Glad you made it, sounds hairy. Got any photos of what you were trying to ride? Makes my crash yesterday sound mild by comparison, but I was lucky like you that it wasn't worse (bike came away with turned bars, a broken shift indicator and a chunk out of a handlebar clamp, body came out scraped and bruised only).

I`ll try to take some pictures of the trail and post them up... i dont have a camera and i dont know how to host or post a pic but i`ll do my best.
The xc trail hosted a World Cup race several years ago, which hadn`t been acomplished before in Mexico. But it hasn`t been used for a long tie so it ids preety raw and "juicy". ;)
Glad t hear that you too came out fine of your crash

Jaja i would but i wouldnt make any justice to the fall.

I have only some hand ad arm brusies and a big swell i my upper arm, some back scratches and just three small scraping on my left knee and leg

It is quite a lot if you add them all up... and the swell in my arm isn`t as big and flashy as it was before taking the pills and having desinfamatory shots. But i have had more severely cuts and bruises in "easier" crashes.

If it makes you feel better my back is killing me, you sadistic freak. :p

These are fun if you land wrong:
I thought I was going to have to wear one of those when I broke my wrist a few years back, only the doctor said he cold make me a special one of carbon fiber. Instead, he put in plates and pins.

Pics?

Let see some pics of that hair turn. The pic will probably make it look easy though. (DOH!)
Glad you made it out intact. I would say slow down a bit and take it with moderate speed next time.

**** that thing looks awfull.....
I have always been interested in racing enduro bikes and in the past month there`s a guy willing to trade my old truck for a nice 250cc bike i didnt want to accet the tradein because of how much the equipment was goig to cost me and because i practicaly know nothing of motor bikes... nevertheless i have awaken several days willing to do it.
But on my way down, sort to speak, i was thinking about how much more it would have hurted if i had crashed on a motor bike instead of my xc bike.
Looking at that picture i pictured myself after a few months of riding motor bikes, or with exposed fractures, or even worse roasting marshmallows in hell.

Yeah,I sported some hardware just like that before. It's an external fixator, and they slap one on ya if you shatter a bone or have a complicated fracture in which there's too many bone fragments or too small bone fragments to pin/screw together. The screws are drilled into the 2nd metacarpal (2) and the radius (2).It sucks having to pull the skin away from the screws every day to prevent from sticking to them.Plus,ya end up smacking it on door frames a lot...major ouch. What's worse is that the device allows for ZERO movement in the wrist, which means that after 6-8 weeks of wearing it,your arm becomes USELESS.Physical therapy from one of those can be hell, and in my opinion, was the worst part of the whole ordeal.I couldn't even hold a pencil after they took it off!If ya ask me,I'd say that the only worse post-accident devices than a fixator are a wheelchair or a coffin.Good to hear you're still with the living, dude.

Thanks!
Well i`m sure alive, not quite sure about the kicking part, yet.
But tomorrow i`m trying to go road riding to test myself and take it easy on my back, arms, legs, shouldrs, neck, hands, wrists... well you get the idea.
I hated having to stay all day in bed and in the couch today, i want to ride it off, both the swelling and the fear of riding.
So unfortunately it will be road riding for me for a week or so, besides Marcela, that`s my bike`s name, needs to go to see the bike doctor to see if something got damaged that i haven`t been able to notice.

I`m going on a mountain bike trip near where you live starting on the 22nd up to Jan 3rd, i`ll be going to Morelia, Toluca, Cuernavaca, Valle de bravo and Guadalajara.
Send my an email if you are interested in riding.

LOL, I laughed my ass off with the last two pictures.

Glad to hear you got spared, pornstar and thanks for posting about it. This just reminds us how dangerous of a sport we do day in and day out. Be careful out there, guys!

Where my budy got shot by a jealous/crazy girlfriend back in 02. Shattered the bone.

Oh yeah..I got 25 heavy gauge stitches in the back of my knee from the big chainring yesterday. 3" long and pulled down from the muscle. Nasty.

Crazy chics...
