Long story short... I've decided since my new frame has downtube shifter screw holes (see, I'm dumb, no idea what they're called), I want to use them. Will 'any' old friction shifters work?

I'm currently set up with mountain gears and an old XT derailleur and using a 9 speed mtn bar shifter. It cuts down on the hand positions on the drop bar, hence the DT option.

If any old ones will do, then I imagine a cheap $20 pair would be great to try it on the cheap to see if I'm keen on it.

Thanks for the help.

any will do, with caveats

if you get SIS index ones make sure it matches rear der gear range unless it can be set to friction only....some SIS index can be set to full friction mode (disable SIS)
