What is a Hyper Glide chain? Is it a normal type chain? Could I use a tool that works with a hyper glide chain on regular chains?

What is a Hyper Glide chain?

There are two types of Shimano chains

IG chain = has additional side plate shaping that optimizes upshifting and downshifting under load

HG chain= only has side plate shaping that will optimize shifting from smaller to larger gears

Is it a normal type chain?

Your chainrings/cassette will dictate which chain to use
If you have a HG DT = you can use a HG or IG chain
If you have a IG DT = for the best shifting you should use only an IG chain

Could I use a tool that works with a hyper glide chain on regular chains?

ok thanks, I was bidded on a chain tool on ebay. The only thing the guy put down that it was used for that type of chain. I knew I never heard of that type of chain. I won the auction.
