So I have to buy a key and unscrew this persistent nut to remove this gasket. Massacre.
I have only done it using the tools shown in the video. I can assure you that using the correct tools will make it much easier to tear these hubs down and decrease the chances of damaging something.

It is probably possible to remove it without the tool but you are likely to damage it and possibly the hub shell bore if you are not clever about it. You will need a seal driver to put it back on and properly seat it. Be advised that the ring nut will require a tremendous amount of torque to break it free on a long used hub. Using heat or freeze spray will make it easier, there are other videos in YouTube to deal with that.
