A 1x9 seems like a pretty straight forward project, and there have been quite a few questions about the nuances of such a drive train, but I havent been able to find a thread which explains the parts necessary in a succinct manner...so...go at it. Explain the parts necessary for a 1x9.

There are numerous variations, depending on intended application and personal preference. From a basic jump-stop guide to full chain retention with bashguard. If you wish an education, peruse the illustrious 1x9 thread (link).
except that thread is dead, I tried to look at it before posting, and have been unable to get anything other than cached pages from google. And then the images dont show up.
The thread is fine on my browser. Anyone else have trouble? It was last posted to 3 weeks ago. I'll go and bump it up...

edit. posted no problem.
It's not working for me either. I think it might have grown too big??? It's the biggest thread I've ever come across! I was looking at it just fine about a month ago but have had issues ever since...
Hmmm...
Duno, works fine for me, but I do get that weird mythtv thing wanting a password, which I just ignore...

I'll try a post in it too...
i got the mythtv thing when i tried to load the cached site. It doesnt work on Chrome or FF browsers for me
In case any of you didn't see it, SteveUK started a new thread here about that forum problem

The easiest/least expensive is probably what I did: BBG bashguard on the outside and N-Gear Jump Stop on the inside, remove front derailleur and small chainring and you're good to go with no chain drops. Total cost: less than $30 including shipping I ran without the bash and jump stop for a couple of ride but dropped the chain in rough stuff quite often, just depends which gear you're on at the time.

From there, you can go on up in price and 'exotic-ness'.
