How tell an '02 Koko and ASR's from '03?

1330 Views 10 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  Yetifan
I'm looking at used Koko's and ASR's at the moment. I'm wondering how a lay person could tell what year the frame was? What are the differences between the different years? I know the pivots and bearings changed, but is there anything someone could easily look at to distinguish the various years?

Thanks

I don't think the Koko's ever changed, but the ASR's got the Ti flex pivot in 2003 and carbon flex in 2004
Look at the frame number stamped on the underside of the bb shell. 2002 models begin with the prefix 02, 2003 with the prefix 03 and so on.

Koko's have different colors & stickers, different shock

02 Kokos are grey or black with black swingarm, 03's are black, yellow, red or orange with black swingarm.

The stickers are different. In 02s the name is written "Kokopelli" with a YETI shadow text beneath it. The text is locationed in the toptube above the shock. In 03s, the name is written "KOKO" with "pelli" beneath it. The text is locationed in the toptube after the headtube except for the XS size, where it is in the same place as 02 logo.

02 Kokos have a Fox Float without lockout and 03s have a Float L with lockout.
03s have ball bearings in the main pivot.
Thanks guys, great info, especially the Koko colors / text info.

Anyone know the colors, text, logo info for the ASR's?
Explain This Please!

I have a Koko with a serial number that begins with 2K , has a Fox RL rear shock and has the text written like a 2003 model and has bushings in the main pivot
HELP PLEASE!!
Are the sure it has bushings in the main pivot? The difference is subtle in appearance. It's probably an 03 model with bearings.
02 Yello Koko

"02 Kokos are grey or black with black swingarm"

FWIW, 02 Koko's came in gray or yellow frames with black swing arms. I remember because I ordered a gray frame but was sent the yellow. The sticker description above is right on the money.
Confused!

The frame definatly has a bushings in the main pivot and it does not seem to fit any of the explanations posted so far. I am confused! Has this frame been monkeyed about with?

Hey all, I'm new around here. I have what I thought was an '02 Koko...everything matches according to the discriptions given, but I think the main pivot has bearings instead of bushings. On the Yeti website, they offer what appears to be a bearing rebuild kit for the '02 Koko. My question is this: Does anyone know if some of the '02s were built with bearings?

Thanks for any help,
Craig

01 and 02 AS-R had bushing pivot- they got bearings with the Ti & Carbon flexpoint rear end for 03 and 04- this is poished. if its black painted rear its bushing UNLESS it got........

02 Koko has bushings, 03 and whats left for 04 got bearings, this is the part you AS-R owners neeed to get to upgrade to bearings. (NOTE- Koko and 03/4 AS-R bearings are different sizes)

hope that helps- I can be found at www.yetifan.com
