I have 2 bikes running Judy forks, an SL and an XC, circa '95? - they have the one piece elastomers, instead of that earlier puck style.
From what I understand, travel on the 2 were 63mm and 50mm. I get maybe 40, and 35. Since the MCUs were gooey powder blobs I swapped in elastomers because that is all you can get these days.
So what I wondered is: Did they ever really operate with those travel #s or was that just a published marketing #?
I am under no illusions that these forks are going to compare to modern forks except for the shape. Just wondering if someone recalls.

Base Judy travel was 63mm for all models.
The long travel versions were 80mm.

I thought the long travel kit got you 75, and then the uber cool, blood red Judy DH, got 80?

Running off memory fumes, not saying you're incorrect....

I am just wondering, did they actually travel the stated travel with MCUs?
They don't with elastomers. Again it's just a 'i wonder?' kinda thing.

IMO you'd be lucky to be able to tune them to the point where they will get all the claimed travel and not bottom out regularly and harshly.

Coils improved things and you could run slightly different rates in each leg to help tune them.

I have an old set of SL's here with the bolt-up crown on a Klein Pinnacle that I rebuilt a while ago.

I think there was a dual crown at 100 or 120 as well but may have been an air model. 100% sure there was an 80mm version in the later 90's though.

As far as actual travel, I believe they were rated at the theoretical potential, not usable travel. You can only compress the elastomer so much, so it wouldn't surprise me at all if they are 10 - 15mm less than what RS advertised.

I had the 80mm long travel sl which i quickly devolved to 70mm via Englunds and the fork got better.

I have a vageu memory that a mag21 w/ the extended travel mod could work better than the Judy.
